1Where to find analytics

Open a group in your dashboard and pick Analytics in the Insights section of the group menu.

At the top you can switch the period between Week and Month. Every chart and metric below reacts to that choice, so you always compare the same window. Analytics sits alongside the other Insights views — Members, Leaderboard and Message history — which drill into the people and messages behind the numbers.

2Key metrics and trends

The metric cards give you the headline numbers for the selected period:

  • Messages — total messages sent in the group.
  • Active users — how many members actually posted.
  • New members and Left — joins and departures over the window.
  • Spam blocked — messages the bot caught and removed.
Below the cards, the Messages, Users and Growth tabs plot each metric over time so you can spot trends at a glance. These basic charts are available on every plan, including Free.

3Reading the trend charts

The numbers on the cards tell you where you are; the trend tabs tell you where you are heading. Each tab answers a different question about the health of your community.

Use the Week or Month toggle to zoom the trend in or out. A Week view is best for spotting the effect of a specific event — a post, a raid, a broadcast — while a Month view smooths out day-to-day noise and shows the real direction of travel.

  • Messages — is the conversation growing, steady, or fading? A sudden spike often lines up with an announcement or an influx of new members.
  • Users — activity concentrated in a few people versus spread across many tells you how resilient your community is.
  • Growth — net joins minus departures. Steady net growth is healthy; a churn spike after a raid or a rule change is worth investigating.
  • Spam blocked — a rising line is usually the bot working harder, not your group getting worse; cross-check it with the moderation journal.

4Advanced insights: the activity heatmap

The Heatmap tab shows when your community is most active, broken down by day of week and hour. It is the fastest way to learn the best time to post announcements or schedule broadcasts.

Advanced analytics unlock deeper trend views on top of the basic charts everyone gets, giving you a richer read of activity patterns over the selected period.

Advanced analytics and the activity heatmap are available on Pro and Business. See Plans and pricing to upgrade.

5Putting the heatmap to work

A heatmap is only useful if it changes what you do. The point is to stop guessing when your community is awake and start timing your actions around it.

Find the brightest cells — the day-and-hour combinations with the most activity — and treat them as your prime window. Post important announcements and pinned messages then, and schedule DM broadcasts or content to land when the most people are online. The quietest cells are a good time for maintenance or rule changes you would rather not do in front of a full house.

Compare the heatmap across a few weeks before committing to a posting schedule — one unusual day can skew a single week.

6Exporting your data

When you need the raw numbers outside Telm — for a report or your own spreadsheet — you can export analytics and journal data to a CSV file.

The export respects the period and filters you have selected, so you can pull exactly the window you are looking at rather than everything at once.

Data export is a Business feature. All other analytics tools work on lower plans within their limits.

7What each plan includes

Analytics is layered so that everyone gets the essentials and higher plans add depth. Knowing where the lines fall helps you pick the right plan for how closely you want to watch your community.

  • Free and Basic — key metric cards and the Messages, Users and Growth trend charts.
  • Pro — everything above plus advanced analytics and the activity heatmap.
  • Business — everything in Pro plus CSV export of analytics and journal data.
  • History depth also grows with your plan, from 7 days on Free to 365 on Business — see Message history.

8Analytics and the rest of your insights

Analytics gives you the aggregate picture. When a chart raises a question, the neighbouring views answer it at the level of individual people and messages.

A jump in active users is worth pairing with the Leaderboard to see who is driving it; a churn spike is easier to read next to the Members list; and a rise in spam blocked leads straight into the Message history and journal to see exactly what was removed and why.
